For your approval, I present The Skapone as the official named drink of English ska band, The Skapones!
The Skapones have a great Al Capone inspired mascot, along with naturally a fun play on words, so we’re looking to create something that Al Capone himself would enjoy, with a little something something for that “ska” kick so…. here’s what we’re doing:
Ingredients
- Aged Jamaican or Barbados Rum
- Sweet Vermouth
- Campari (or similar bitter aparatif)
- Orange Liqueur – something nice, not too sweet
Recipe
3 parts nice aged, single barrel Jamaican / Barbados region rum, nothing too sweet, you want something a whiskey drinker would like. I’m using The Real McCoy 5 Year Single Blended RuM for this one, there’s Appleton Aged Single Barrel I want to try as well.
1 part sweet vermouth – any will do
1 splash of Campari (1/4 teaspoon or so)
Put everything into a shaker with a handful of ice and stir (don’t shake).
In a old fashioned glass pour a 1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon of a nice orange liquor (something like Grand Marnier, Cointrau… i’m use JM Shrubb Liquer D’Orange) and spin the glass around to coat the edges.
Put one giant ice cube into the glass. (Barring this, 4-5 standard cubs)
Strain the shaker over the one giant ice cube, and enjoy while listening The Skapones!
